A new gallery, Canberra Art Gallery, has opened at the Center Cinema building. The first show is 'Mixed Show I'.
The painters included be in his recent one-man in this show, with the possible exception of one are local. Looking at it therefore I found myself relating it to the. Canberra paintings scene. Altogether the pictures say "Things are getting better, baby".
Arthur Wicks, the traveller returned, has a painting in this show that demonstrates the way in which you need to be intelligent if you are going to play about with simple or apparently simple -- organisations of shapes, and demonstrates that Wicks knows what he is doing. It's the best painting I've seen in this town. for quite a while.
Leopold Mlakar is as good as he appeared to be in his recent one-man exhibition.
Bill Wiebenga has six serious and considered paintings.
Liga Lipins (I've only seen one of her paintings before) has two large impressive pictures. There is a fine grey to white Diana Giese: Three Nigel .Murray - Harveys that look better as a small group than they did in his exhibition.
